A new opening: Nelli and the beach

Short audio-first check · event + response · natural-speed fiction

The last two reports were about a familiar opening. Today, try the start of a different Satuillaan story before seeing its text. We’re checking the gist and how one response changes what happens—not every word or your overall level.

Keep it small: this episode is about 14½ minutes, but today’s focus is only the opening. I don’t have a report that you’ve heard this story before; if it is familiar, that’s completely fine—mention it when you report back.

1 · Listen first, with the text closed

▶ Play Nellin ja Vihreän Ketun kesä from 0:00 · episode page · publisher’s story text (keep this closed for now).

Listen through the opening as Nelli gets ready to go out and talks with the fox. No scene search: if stopping after their exchange feels fiddly, let the audio continue to the next natural pause.

Before opening the text, answer roughly in English or Finnish:

  1. What is Nelli looking for, and what is she planning to do?
  2. What does Vihreä Kettu try, and what does Nelli decide?

A few words are enough. Let unknown words pass; the aim is the event and the response, not a transcript.

If you’re walking, keep a rough answer in mind and save the text/phone step for when you’re safely seated.

Focused listen and text check: about 6–10 minutes. The full recording is about 14½ minutes; listening longer is optional enjoyment, not another test.

2 · After your attempt, check a few text anchors

Now open the publisher’s text and read only the opening exchange. Use these phrases to check what happened, not to decode every sentence.

Show the phrases and the event connection
  • Uikkarit! — “Swimsuit!” (informal)
  • Tänään mennään rannalle! — “We’re going to the beach today!”
  • Nyt pitää mennä rannalle oikeasti! — “Now we need to go to the beach for real!”

Nelli is getting ready for a real trip to the beach. The fox’s magic cloud appears, but she shoos it away: she wants to go to the actual beach now, rather than travel there by magic. That choice is the link between the dialogue and what happens next.

Hätistellä means “to shoo away” here. You do not need to remember it; notice how the action helps explain Nelli’s reply.

These anchors are from the publisher’s text. I have not independently transcribed or timestamp-matched the recording; if you heard different wording, keep what you heard and tell me.

Optional · one text-free replay

If useful, replay the opening with the text closed. Listen for what Nelli wants and how she answers the fox. Or, if you’re enjoying the story, let the full episode play without turning it into a comprehension test.

Optional Anki candidates · whole story

Three fresh suggestions from different points in the story. Keep only items that are unfamiliar or slow to retrieve; these are suggestions, not cards added.

The forms and story contexts were checked against the publisher’s full text. Local Anki searches for the headwords and story forms found no matching notes. No cards were added or changed.

One-line report

What came through before you opened the text? What did you think Nelli wanted, and how did she respond to the fox? Mention whether the story was already familiar, what support helped, and any meaningful audio/text difference. A fragment or “not yet” is enough.
