A small revisit: school can be nice and tiring

Delayed recall · one opening exchange · natural-speed story

The library scene was difficult to find and follow, so today starts somewhere reliable: the beginning of the recording. First try to recall the opening contrast; then listen to a few lines and check the text afterward.

Today’s win: hear how Nelli can like school while still feeling worn out by the new routine and early mornings.

Before the replay · a tiny memory check

Before opening the audio or text, see if you remember one thing Nelli said about school, or one reason she felt tired. A fragment—or “not sure”—is useful. This is a short delayed-recall check on the opening you reported understanding earlier, not a test of the whole story.

Listen · start at 0:00, with the text closed

▶ Listen to Tavallisen päivän taika · episode page · publisher’s story text (keep it closed for now).

Play from the beginning through the first short exchange with Nelli’s father. No scene search: if stopping at the right moment is awkward, let the recording continue and keep your attention on the opening.

  1. Does Nelli seem to like school, dislike it, or feel both ways?
  2. What does she connect with feeling worn out?
  3. What does her father do with one of her words?

Pause and answer roughly in English or Finnish before opening the story text. One gist phrase is enough.

Focused pass and text check: about 6–8 minutes. The full story is roughly 14 minutes and optional; listening longer is for enjoyment, not a comprehension test.

After your attempt · open three phrase footholds

Use these only after your memory check and first listen. They come from the opening of the publisher’s story text.

Show the phrases and how they connect
  • Koulussa on ihan kivaa — “School is quite nice.”
  • kamalasti uusia juttuja — “so many new things.”
  • pitää aina herätä aamulla aikaisin — “you have to wake up early every morning.” Treat pitää herätä as one useful chunk: “have to wake up.”

The connection: Nelli is not saying school is all bad. She says it is nice, while the new things and early starts leave her worn out. Her father echoes the tiredness idea with Uupunut? (“Exhausted?”). You’ve reported that uuvuttunut and uupunut are familiar, so today’s focus is how the turns fit together—not memorizing those words again.

These anchors are from the full publisher text. The official MP3 link was checked, but I did not independently transcribe this passage; if the narration differs, keep what you hear and tell me which part.

Optional · one text-free replay

If useful, replay from 0:00 once with the text closed. Listen for the contrast and how her father responds. You do not need to replay the whole story or fill the rest of a walk with new audio; familiar Finnish or quiet is fine too.

Optional Anki candidates · whole story

Fresh suggestions from elsewhere in the full story. Keep only items that are actually unfamiliar or slow to retrieve; these are suggestions, not cards added.

Forms and meanings were checked against the complete publisher text. A live local Anki search for the lemmas and story forms found no matching notes for these two candidates. No cards were added or changed.

One-line report

What, if anything, came back before replay, and what did you understand from the first audio pass? Did you need the text footholds? A fragment or “not yet” is enough; mention it if the recording differed from the text.
