The win is not catching more words. It is recognizing something in the audio before text, then using the story to make its meaning clearer. A rough scene and one phrase are plenty.
Main listening: a story you already know
Return to Nellin sadepäivä mökillä, the Satuillaan story you were nearly through. Familiarity helps you notice more on a replay; you do not need to prove anything by choosing new material.
▶ Listen to the story audio (~14 minutes) · Publisher’s story text
The publisher’s text and recording have not been matched by timestamp. After listening, find the passage by the event in the story—not by hunting for an exact time.
One small listening loop
- Listen without text. Follow the situation: who is there, and what seems to be happening? Let unknown words pass.
- Recall one sound or phrase. Don’t pause to transcribe it. If nothing stands out, that is useful to know too.
- Check one scene in the text. Find the matching event and read just enough to understand it. Check one phrase at most—the one you heard, or one that unlocks the scene.
- Close the text and listen again. Does the phrase stand out now? Did it help you follow what happened, or did the scene make the phrase easier to recognize?
No need to understand the whole story or work through every unfamiliar word.
Tomorrow’s standard plan · your two walks
Walk out · 35–40 minHear the story first
- Optionally replay Tavallinen päivä once, lyrics closed, as a quick warm-up. Recall the phrase you recognized yesterday.
- Listen to the Nelli story without reading. First follow what is happening; on a second pass, notice whether a sound or phrase returns.
- If you want more, replay a favorite part or enjoy familiar audio. No need to fill the whole walk with new material.
Seated break · 3–5 minCheck just one scene
Recall the event before opening the publisher’s text. Find that part, check one phrase if useful, then close the page. Skip this step if there is no convenient break.
Keep all reading and subtitle work for when you are safely seated.
Walk home · 35–40 minListen again, text closed
- Replay the story or the section you checked. Listen for the phrase you chose and how it fits the event.
- If you still want more, replay another favorite part or the song. Familiar listening or quiet is fine for any remaining time.
- Notice one thing that became clearer—not everything that is still unfamiliar.
Short-day version: story once → check one scene in the text → story again with the text closed. That is a complete session; the song and extra replays are optional.
Anki stays separate
Keep your usual reviews. You may note at most one story word or phrase if it is useful, genuinely unfamiliar or slow to retrieve, and confirmed in the publisher’s text. Skip guesses, one-off details, and words you can infer easily. The vocabulary workflow handles research and preview; nothing gets added without your approval.
Report one listening win
Tell me: (1) what scene or event you followed, (2) one sound or phrase you caught before reading, and (3) whether the text confirmed it or made it clearer. If you did not catch a phrase, tell me what helped you follow the scene instead. Ask me about anything that remains unclear.
